Being granted this generous contribution to my education liberated me financially during the school year. So, in times where I would have been worrying about paying for tuition, books, miscellaneous fees, etc. I ultimately had more time to focus on my studies and most importantly, myself. Thank you for your selfless contribution to my education through the William Michael College Scholarship. It has been an interesting year, to say the least, and this donation will go a long way in helping me out. The financial burden has been eased that much more.
I will be pursuing a psychology and brain science degree here at UC Santa Barbara. When I graduate, I'm going to extend the same help that I've received to others. This is very important for all of us and the future generations that are coming up, I believe.

My name is Amiah Thompson. In 2022, as I was beginning my journey at Cal State Long Beach, I was incredibly grateful to receive a generous scholarship from Mike Murdoch. This support made a significant difference in my life. At the time, my FAFSA and grants did not cover the full cost of tuition and dorm fees, and my mom was unable to assist with the remaining balance. As a result, I had to take on the responsibility myself. I managed to balance a job while attending school, which was challenging, but the scholarship eased a great deal of my financial burden. It allowed me to afford textbooks more comfortably and reduced my overall stress during an already overwhelming transition as I was starting college in a completely new city, far from my family and friends. I sincerely thank Mike Murdoch and the entire organization for selecting me to receive this scholarship. It truly made a meaningful impact on my college experience.

The scholarship I received at the start of my undergrad experience at the University of California, Santa Cruz allowed me to cover a portion of my meal plan, which is required for all students living in the dorms. As a first generation low income student, receiving assistance allowed me to obtain my degree in 4 years time, avoid food insecurity, and feel comfortable enough to apply to other programs/resources offered to students. Thanks again.
I will be graduating with a 3.46 gpa and bachelors degree in intensive psychology. I’ve completed a field study internship and various entry roles to prepare me for grad school.
